4 Quarters Radio: February 15

The first-period curriculum for February 15:
--Scott chatted with MTSU baseball coach Steve Peterson a couple of days before the season began. They touched on new pitchers and where the coach expected the team's power hitting to come from.
--Scott also asked the coach how much he believes in specialization among college baseball relief pitchers.
--MTSU alumni like Brett Carroll, Bryce Brentz and Will Skinner are scattered throughout the professional ranks, and Coach Pete discussed how those players have been keeping in touch with the program.

1st Intermission: "Okie From Muskogee" by Merle Haggard.

The second-quarter curriculum:
--Still all alone in the studio, Scott took time to compare the reactions to the drug problems of entertainers like Whitney Houston and those of athletes like Lawrence Taylor or Len Bias.
--In Whodaman, Scott paid respect to a Wizards fan who was ready to catch an ass-whipping from LeBron James. He also gave a shout to a listener who threw the official 4QR salute at a Middle Tennessee basketball game. Halftime Show: "Air" by Talking Heads.

The third-quarter curriculum:
--Scott discussed the onset of Linsanity, especially pondering the commentary from boxing champ Floyd Mayweather. El Prof was surprisingly sympathetic to Money May's point of view, which is not to say he agreed.
--Also, a brief history lesson on the first Asian-American player in pro basketball history (no, it wasn't Lin).

3rd Intermission: "Let's Roll" by Yelawolf feat. Kid Rock.

The fourth-quarter curriculum:
--Scott spoke with MTSU women's basketball coach Rick Insell as the season began to wind down. Topics included the surprising production from the Lady Raider backcourt, the shot selection of gunner Kortni Jones, and expectations that he harbors for his recruits.
--Coach Insell also waxed lyrical about his lone senior, Molly McFadden, on the eve of her honors at Senior Day.
--In the Epic Fails, Scott took the Chinese and Taiwanese governments to task for having nothing more important to do than fight over who claims Jeremy Lin's heritage. Also, he laid into Colts owner Jim Irsay for trying to play public relations chicken with Peyton Manning.

Postgame Show: "I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair" by George Jones.

The second-quarter curriculum for April 15:
--While the fellas wait for the call from MTSU football coach Rick Stockstill, they move into handicapping some of the NBA playoff series. Scott's despondent over the Pacers having to face the Bulls, and there's a surprising undercurrent of excitement for Philly against Miami.
--Once Coach Stock calls, Scott gets the questions right into spring practice. Stockstill discusses the quarterback competition and how the offense is improving in terms of ball security from last season's turnover-prone mess.
--Scott hounds the coach until he actually names a few guys who thrust themselves into discussion for starting spots. Also, Stock offers a possible successor for MTSU's ongoing line of dangerous pass rushers.
--New coordinators Willie Simmons and Steve Ellis get discussed in terms of their impact on their first spring in their positions.
--Finally, Scott asks the coach's opinion about his former receiver Garrett Andrews suing the NFL.
--The fellas skip the 10-minute warning and head straight into Whodaman. Bobby stays local, giving props to the MTSU baseball team for hanging tough against the top team in America. Mack shouts out to the MTSU lacrosse team (who knew?) while the others head to the pros. Andrew honors skill in cream-pie application and Logan gives love to a pitcher who can rip, while Scott gives respect to a coach who improved his team after losing a big name.

On July 19's episode of 4QR, Scott shares a few thoughts on the passing of George Steinbrenner, also weighing in on his place in history. (Hint: SportsNation is populated with morons.) A history lesson is presented in which the listener gets reminded just who guys like Lamar Hunt, Charlie O. Finley, and Bill Veeck are. Also, someone gets described as "Charlie O. Finley with tits." So there's that. In the second, Scott's predictions on MLB's second half and playoff picture can be clipped and saved for future reference. MTSU's recent crop of MLB draftees get reviewed, as do QB Dwight Dasher's Bad MF credentials. In the third, Bobby calls up for a belated Whodaman and a rousing NBA Offseason edition of Medal Stand. They briefly touch on NBA and NFL labor issues before moving on to something much less depressing, the once-again-crowded Epic Fails. This week, an athlete, a team, and an ENTIRE LEAGUE get spit-roasted. Then Bobby calls out Bob Sapp and says that he could kick Sapp's ass. You think we're kidding.
